Anne Boleyn VS Catherine Howard
Henry viii seemed to like to keep it in the family. First he had anne’s sister mary as his mistress, then jane seymour who was a very very distant relation to the Boleyn’s ad then he married catherine howard who was anne's first cousin.
Catherine was 13 when Anne was executed, it's unknown if they ever met. I think it is likely that they didn’t, catherine was the daughter of a poor howard that Anne had gotten a job, while catherine was raised by the dowager duchess of norfolk. While anne was raised in the glittering french court, getting an education to rival that of a man’s. Catherine was raised in basically a group home for nobel born girls that didn't have money to family.
Both catherine and anne were called to goto henry’s court by the men in their families anne by her father and catherine by their uncle Norfolk (Who sat on Anne’s trial and pronounced her sentence). Both women were brought to court in an effort to use them to further their families.
Both had to serve as ladies in waiting to the current Queen, and both thought themself soon to unseat her. While both unseated their Queen’s only Anne really fit in the role of Queen. Say what you want about her rise to the throne, once Anne sat upon the throne, she strived to better the conditions of the poor.
Catherine on the other hand was a young girl with a lot more learning to do. Catherine had no education, learned no real manners or how to behave at court. The court wasn’t used to having a Queen that didn’t know or care how she was supposed to act.
Both Anne and Catherine were both executed on charges of Adultery. Only Catherine is widely believed to have actually been guilty, catherine was also widely believed to have had sex before her marriage to the king. That was what led Henry to say that all his other wives had to disclose who and if they had ever had sex before their marriage could go forward.
It's likely that catherine was abused as a child by her music teacher Madex, while she lived at Dowager Duchess of Norfolk's home, this is probably what led to catherines uncaring attitude towards sex. This attitude led to her affair with culpepper, they both denied that they ever had actual intercourse.
Anne and Catherine were victims of Henry. His lust, his rage and his greed. Neither woman deserved what happened to them and neither one was asking to be put in the position that they were put in. Innocent traitors.
