The Roommate Series: Tale of Two's
They say college is the best four years of your life, it wasn’t for me. College was two mediocre years and two years that were pretty bad, that is in terms of roommates. Looking back on my freshman year, it's pretty ironic that i changed my roommate and in some ways was worse off than i originally was. I went into college, with the naive idea that my roommate and i were going to be friends at least at first. The thing about me is that i'm quick to think that someone doesn't like me but i'm slow to see the hints if i really think there's a mutual friendship.
I thought morgan and i were friends, i went to parties with her and her golf team. I thought we had fun, fun being i sat and watched everyone talk and dink. I've never been very sociable,, i'm very awkward and silent in groups. I always tagged along with her because i didn't have any friends of my own yet and i honestly thought we were friends. I thought that until, one of her friends came to our room to invite Morgan to another party with their team. Since, i thought we were friends, i just assumed that i was going with them. I started to get ready when Morgan said there just needed to get something from her friends room. I didn't think anything of it until they had been gone for thirty minutes. So, I went to her friends room and listened at the door so see if they were in there. They weren't.
They had ditched me, at the time, it really hurt me feelings. Morgan's friend and I were in the same english class and had been sitting next to each other, but the next day the literary chairs were moved and no longer next to each other. I heard from other friend that Morgans friend had gone running to Morgan saying that I had purposely moved away from her and was upset. Morgan than got angry and stop speaking to me for days. That's went i decided to change roommates.
I had made friends with a girl that lived down the hall from me, Casey. Her roommate was also really not working out, so we both decided that we should room together instead. You know what they say living together really tests the bonds of friendship, and it did. Living with Casey was fun at first. Until I got a boyfriend, and it all went down hill. Since I had a boyfriend, I spent some nights at his room, Casey, I guess didn't realize i did that, so one night she called campus security on me, telling them i was missing.
By the skin on my teeth, i escaped getting in trouble. Another time, he was in our room and she said that she was gonna take a shower, i said okay and then she got mad at me that he wasn't immediately leaving the room. Casey didn’t seem to realize that if she had said she was taking a shower right then or gone and left with her shower caddy, he would have left so that she could have gotten back to room without him there. Instead she chose to get mad and scream at me that i was inconsiderate.
In our room, there was only two opinions about the temperature, either the heat was on or the air conditioning was on. Thats how old the system was. Casey was always hot and i was always cold. In the middle of winter, she would fight to have the heat off, and i would fight to have it at least on low. One night she got mad at me because in the middle of the night i got up to turn the heat on because i was cold. I guess she just didn't believe that i really was cold. Until one morning, she had to get up for a 8AM class, she told me that she looked over at my bed and sw that i was shivering so bad, my whole bed was shaking. So she put her blanket on top of me.
I guess the moral of this story, is to listen when people say that living with your friend is hard.
